Tomorrow is Pinked Out Day - Show your support in the fight against breast cancer! // 12th October 2009 //
As you are aware, Breast Cancer is a leading cause of death in women in the United States. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) has chosen this as one of the projects to focus on for this school year. We invite you to help with the “Cure”
FCCLA is Passionately Pink for the Cure and will host a “Pinked Out Day” for Breast Cancer Awareness. The date will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009. The administration has approved activities for the entire day. FCCLA invites you to get involved. We would like you to participate and if you have students, please encourage them to participate.
Our activities will include:
* We would like all school staff and students to wear pink shirts on Oct. 13 th. All staff may wear jeans if wearing a pink shirt, even to parent teacher conference. Parents will be encouraged to wear pink to parent teacher conference.
* We are asking each staff member and each student to donate $1.00 each to the “Cure” in the name of Westville Public Schools.
* We will have a Costume Contest for the Most Pinked Out Outfit. Categories will be Lower Elem., Upper Elem., Junior High, High School, and Staff. So plan ahead…or should we say, “plan from head to toe”.
* We will have an all pink Bake Sale before school, at lunch and in the FACS room for you to bring your students to if you would like. We will have pink and white cookies, cakes, and pies, with pink lemonade. All Proceeds will go to the “Cure”. If you would like to donate items please call or e-mail Mrs. Winn.
* We have a “Pink Out Your Office” for any staff member who has an office area. Winning Office will receive free lunch at Ozarks Gardens Restaurant.
* We will have a group picture on the front lawn at 2:45 p.m . for the entire school wearing pink. Picture will be submitted to Tulsa World, The State of Oklahoma FCCLA magazine and the National FCCLA Teen Times magazine, as well as all local papers.
* We will have a “Pink Out the Cake” decorating contest. The contest will take place in the FACS room at 4:00 p.m. Teams will design and decorate the best “pinked out” cake for breast cancer. The cakes will all be used for a reception on the practice field before the evening activities end. So get you teams formed and get entered.
* We are hosting a “Walk for the Cure” event. This event will take place on the practice field from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Teams will walk or take turns walking for the “Cure”. Water and snacks will be provided for the teams. Teams can be a group of staff members, (ex. English teachers or bus drivers), a team can be a class, (ex. Mrs. Collins and her class or Spanish II) a team can be a club, (ex. FCCLA or 4-H), a team can be a family walking in memory of a family member, a team can be a group of friends who want to support the cause.
* We are inviting Survivors to speak at the event.
FCCLA would encourage you each to get involved and participate in this extremely important event. This is a fun way to make a difference and it is a great teaching opportunity.
